|Research Experiences for Undergraduates - Summer 2002|
|Math Department VIGRE REU|
For the The Math Department summer REU homepage see http://math.rutgers.edu/~reu/.
The DIMACS and Math Department programs are sharing application procedures and each application will be considered by both departments.
The program begins with eight weeks of intensive work during the summer of 2002; students are strongly encouraged to continue their projects during the academic year 2002-2003. We expect DIMACS will select five to ten undergraduates to participate (depending on availability of funds), and the Math Department will select approximately ten students for their program. Participants will have a DIMACS or Math Department faculty member as a supervisor. Topics will be posted on the DIMACS proposed projects page and the Math Department proposed projects page as mentors become available. A stipend of approximately $3,000 will be provided (depending on choice of housing options) as well as travel (up to $400 with additional funds available on a case by case basis) and housing. This program requires eight weeks of intense effort and on-site participation. Students should not commit to other activities (e.g., courses) during the REU program.
DIMACS is awaiting word on continuation of NSF funding for an exchange program between DIMACS and our sister site DIMATIA at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Click here for more information.
Applicants should be undergraduates with a major in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field. They should be current juniors (graduating in 2003), although sophomores with exceptionally strong backgrounds as well as seniors will be considered. Preference will be given to students who will continue their research projects during the academic year, under the direction of either their supervisor or a faculty member from their home institution. Under NSF rules, only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible to receive stipends, housing and travel support. Women, minorities, and disabled students are encouraged to apply.
